The blaze broke out in Mineola around 7:55 p.m., Sunday, March 15, in a garage on Main Street, said the Nassau County Police Department.
Police officers and Mineola Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a parking garage fire in the rear of 101 Main St., Nassau County Police said.
When officers arrived, several commercial businesses and multiple apartments were fully engulfed in flames causing extensive damage.
The Mineola Fire Department was assisted by at least 12 other fire departments including 200 firefighters.
Two firefighters were treated and evaluated at the scene for signs of exhaustion.
The Red Cross also responded to assist with approximately 15 displaced residents.
The investigation is ongoing.
